On Monday, April 24, 2017, Shima reopened after a brief closure. Although the doors to the restaurant have remained unlocked, due to the shared space with Spicy House, an authentic Szechuan style Chinese restaurant, sources affiliated with Shima say the Japanese bar is officially open for business and eager to share its new concept and lower prices with locals.
“The goal was to always reopen,” says Management. “We are trying a different approach.”
Shima, which means ‘island’ in Japanese, won’t offer teppanyaki anymore; instead, guests can expect to see a smaller menu (food will begin being served on Wednesday, April 26, 2017) and a bustling bar.
According to management, the restaurant is undergoing construction, which includes installation of a pool table in the back, among other modifications.
Shima will be closed on Tuesdays, as Spicy House is also closed on that day. Shima is located at 126 Orange Avenue in Coronado.
