Toni Atkins Endorses Whitney Benzian for Coronado City Council

California Speaker Emeritus Toni Atkins endorses Coronado City Council candidate Whitney Benzian. Atkins is now running for State Senate to represent Coronado.

“I am thrilled to have the support of such a strong and effective leader like Toni,” Whitney said. Whitney and the Speaker Emeritus have worked together on public policy issues over the years, most recently in Sacramento when she was an Assemblywoman and Speaker.

“At a time when Coronado’s biggest issues, like traffic, bridge safety, the Gateway project, noise pollution and relinquishment of State Route 75 and 282, need to be addressed, having a proven working relationship with our presumptive State Senator will allow me to hit the ground running as your next councilmember,” Whitney continued.

Working with Caltrans over the years has not always been fruitful for Coronado. Whitney added, “All of these public policy challenges are ones that need to be addressed at the State Capitol, working directly with our legislators, not just in the offices of local Caltrans staff.”

“We need to bring a fresh set of eyes and new ideas to some of our oldest problems. I will do that.”
