“We’re not against lighting the bridge, but we think preventing the tragic loss of life that has become so frequent and the economic impact of bridge closures should take precedence over decorative lighting. It is our hope the two objectives can be combined into one project.”

CALL FOR ACTION:Â SIGNS.
Please show up for Coronado City Council meeting tomorrow [Tuesday, August 16] at 4pm with #LivesBeforeLights signs.
We want to work with SD Port & “artistic bridge lights” people to get a suicide prevention fence or barrier as part of their bridge “artistic lights” project to be completed in 2019. City Mgr is sending $5k grant that I signed over for City to send to SANDAG for suicide prevention barrier feasibility study. Coronado Bridge Collaborative also has $10,541 in donations to give to SANDAG for the study. City Mgr said an account needs to be setup at SANDAG & he will let me know when they are ready to receive our donation for bridge suicide prevention barrier study.
We will be looking forward to see what opportunities exist for incorporating a barrier into this “bridge artistic lights” design the Port will be presenting. Please feel free to speak on your feelings at Council meeting & I will speak that I think it will be a suicide magnet unless a suicide prevention fence or barrier is incorporated into the “bridge artistic lights” project.
Thanks for any help and for showing support,
 Wayne Strickland
