(Coronado, CA) A team of Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) students and recent alums will be the youngest producers/writers of a play featured in the San Diego Fringe Festival, held June 23 – July 3. To stage their political satire, “The Secret Life of the American Candidate,” Tim Baran, Troy Cavalieri, Patrick Clark, and Ethan Haas are hosting a campaign kickoff fundraiser – with Trump wine, Hillary’s cookies, and a bunch of Bernie’s free giveaways – Thursday, May 19, 6 to 8 PM at Broadstone Coronado on the Bay, 1515 Second Street. The event is open to the public.  With the suggested donation of $20, enjoy wine and a spread of appetizers, and be treated to a sneak preview of this hilarious spoof on the presidential candidates, following them back to their days at Capitol Hill High.

The four young producers all performed together while at CoSA, acting on the school’s award-winning improv team. “Of course we drew upon our Islander high school experiences as we imagined Donald, Bernie, Hillary and Ted all competing for student body president,” says Clark, a 2015 CoSA graduate who is now studying theatre at San Diego State University. The Coronado producing team conceived, wrote, and cast the one-act play, which they call an “equal opportunity offender” as it skewers all the candidates. They will soon begin rehearsals for the show, which opens June 23 at the Raw Space Off Broadway in downtown San Diego. Get all the show info here.

Like the politicians they’re spoofing, the producers are coming to Coronado with hats in hand, raising dough for sets, props, and marketing of their show. Grilled sliders, pigs in the blanket, apple pie, flag cookies, and other Americana treats will be served along with varietals of wine from, er, outside the country. A live auction will feature items such as a 10-person appetizer and tasting party at VomFass in Hillcrest as well as much-in-demand private performances from the producers themselves.
