Memorial Day Ceremonies May 25

Memorial Day Ceremony Takes Place at Star Park Monday, May 25

One of Coronado’s special traditions is the Memorial Day salute to our fallen troops. It takes place every Memorial Day, and literally envelops Star Park.

The event is hosted by the Coronado Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 2422), the United States Navy League, Coronado Council, and Military Officers’ Association of America (Silver Strand Chapter).

It’s a time for everyone, whether they have been directly or indirectly affected by tragedy, to remember those who died while serving their country.

Rear Admiral Paul Becker, USN, will serve as honored guest and keynote speaker. Also new this year will be the singing of our country’s National Anthem and “God Bless America” by internationally known opera singer, and Coronado resident, Diane Alexander.

The Memorial Day ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. and last about an hour. Seniors or disabled are advised to arrive early to take advantage of limited seating that will be provided.

While most people walk or ride their bikes to this special event, parking is available on adjacent streets to Star Park.

Following the event at Star Park, attendees are invited to attend VFW Post 2422 for light refreshments at their headquarters at 557 Orange Avenue. For more information on the Coronado VFW Memorial Service on May 25, contact Michael Turner at (619) 865-4809 or [email protected].
