Many Coronado parents tell their kids that if they are to live close to the ocean, they better know how to be safe and keep others safe in and out of the water. Not to mention, it’s a great time to put down the electronics and hit of one of the best beaches in the world.
Junior Guards will learn CPR, first aid, go on field trips and compete against other lifeguards. Plus, they get to snorkel, paddle board, kayak, and body surf.Local kids have started prepping to take the swimming test to become Junior Lifeguards through the City of Coronado. Boy and girls ages 9-17 can participate in the “Junior Guards” program. Kids 6-8 years old can participate in the Surf Awareness program.

WHAT: A great way for young people to spend the summer. Classes are designed to teach environmental awareness, water safety, CPR and first aid in an exciting and interesting environment. Students will enjoy games, competition, field trips, and various water activities such as swimming, paddle boarding, snorkeling and kayaking. Instructors are experienced beach lifeguards with a background in teaching and coaching. This program is physically challenging, mentally stimulating and it gives participants an idea of what it is to be a lifeguard.
CORONADO SURF AWARENESS
WHO: Boys and Girls- 6 to 8 years old
WHERE: Coronado Beach @ Ocean Blvd. and Isabella Ave.
WHAT: A great way for young people to spend the summer. Classes are designed to teach environmental awareness, water safety, and an introduction to lifeguarding skills in an exciting and interesting environment. Students will enjoy games and various water activities such as swimming, body boarding, body surfing, and board surfing. Instructors are experienced beach lifeguards with a background in teaching and coaching.
