SAN DIEGO – Commander Naval Air Forces (CNAF) is scheduled to hold a change of command and retirement ceremony Jan. 22 at 1000 a.m. aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) while pierside at Naval Air Station North Island.

During the ceremony, Rear Adm. Mike Shoemaker, who is scheduled for promotion to the rank of vice admiral prior to the ceremony, will relieve Vice Adm. David H. Buss as CNAF.

CNAF is responsible for the material readiness, administration, and training of all Naval Aviation commands and for providing operationally ready squadrons and aircraft carriers to the fleet.

Immediately following the change of command, Buss, who began serving as the Navy’s sixth “Air Boss” in October 2012, will retire after 36 years of Naval service.
