The Coronado Art Walk is a rare showcasing of artwork open to the community from the students at Coronado High School.
For the first time in four years, Coronado High School is putting on what is sure to be a spectacular event, Art Walk 2013. The school’s various art departments are coming together to exhibit a diverse collection of creative works to share with the community and highlight those who best support the development of creativity in today’s youth. This school-wide event begins on Thursday, May 2nd at 8 a.m. and runs through 3 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd.
This year’s Art Walk is the collaboration of art in its many forms. Art has been collected from a variety of prosperous students including, but not limited to, Laura Hill’s Beginning through Advanced Placement art classes, CoSA Digital Media, Photography and Visual Arts departments, as well as the ceramics and woodworking classes run by Eric Rempe and Ken Heskestad. Alumnus Kelcey Fisher, better known as KFishLA, will be leading a collaborative installation with current art students.
Come to experience interactive works for all ages and tours of the many incredible mosaics, murals, and collaborative works created by both past and current, Coronado High School student bodies. To honor this year’s AP Studio students, as well as past alumni, the Black Box Theater will display concentrations and bodies of artwork as well as videos of the Universe Mosaic, River of Giving mosaic, Emerald City Mural, and the Shredder mural.
For the second consecutive year, the Advanced and Studio classes will lead the Chalk Walk, which coincides with the first day of this event. The completed chalk pieces will be open for viewing during the opening celebration, from 5-7 on Thursday evening. Atendees will also enjoy live music, a fashion show beginning at 6:30 showcasing alumnus Isa Guadalupe Medina’s designs, completed chalk pieces, and great fun. We are honored to provide food from several local restaurants and parents who have generously contributed resources for the Art Walk’s mixer.
In consideration of the safety of our students and their parents, we do ask that those who come during designated school hours sign in at the front office to ensure compelete compliance with district policies.
All of Coronado’s residents and visitors are welcome to the celebration of art, students, community and creativity. We are looking forward to seeing you there!
