After the Recycling Bootcamp I received from my sister and brother-in-law last weekend, I noticed something that annoyed the heck out of me. It was the City’s dump truck taking both the recycling and trash, and putting it in the same bin. Now, I might not be up-to-date on the latest refuse technology, but I don’t think that truck has dual compartments. I even went so far as to look up dump trucks on the internet, and couldn’t find one this small that had the ability to separate the recyclables and trash into two different compartments.
What the hey? I spend my Sunday nights at the Coronado Promenade Concerts (A.K.A, Concerts-in-the-Park) walking over and around people to throw my beer and wine bottles away (yes I know it is against City policy to drink at ANY time in public parks, but me and a couple thousand of my closest friends ignore that rule on Sundays in the Summer…). Why should I spend the time stepping on people with my size 15 feet, if all the trash and recyclables end up in the same place? With the exception of the guy that I saw digging through trash for CRV items, I’m willing to bet most of my effort is wasted.
Please forgive me if I’m wrong, and I would love to be corrected on this. If somebody that works for the City could explain how recycling is still occurring, I will retract my comments.
