Nado Select’s BU8 – Presidio Champs

Nado Select’s BU8 led by Coach Scott Loughney won the 2010 Presidio League (results). They had an undefeated season, winning 10 and tying 2. The team is compiled of both U8 and U7 players, whose competitive attitudes really made the difference.

When asked about the BU8, Coach Scott had this to say, “The team is probably the most competitive team that I have ever coached. They hate to lose and it shows every time we play, especially at practice. Not only are the players wonderful athletes, but they are beginning to understand the tactics of playing their positions and doing their jobs out on the field. In other words, they know how to keep their spacing and they pass the ball very vell for their age group. Every player on this team has contributed to our success this season and all the players have learned and developed tremendously.”

Coach Scott has been coaching for Nado Select for 10+ years. Not only was he a great player who played at Long Beach State University, but he currently works as an elementary educator. “I recognize the importance of being patient and teaching the kids to enjoy soccer. I try and make it as fun as possible so that they want to continue playing for a long time. I also understand that they need to learn to become teammates and friends. The social aspect of coaching this team was challenging at first. Over time the boys have learned to help each other instead of compete against each other. It is extremely satisfying to see the kids learn the game of soccer and how far they have progressed from the beginning of the season. I have been involved with soccer as both a player and coach for over 30 years. My best memories are playing in important games with my closest teammates and friends. That is something that I want for all of my past, present, and future players. Personally, I am really enjoying the passion my own kids are developing for soccer and Nado Select is a major reason for this!” said Coach Scott.

5 of the 12 players will be able to play at the U8 level again next year. Their experience from this season will be very helpful as the team gears up for the 2011 Presidio season. For Coach Scott, he is looking forward to coaching the 2011 U8 team since he will get to build on all that the players had learned from the 2010 season.
