The Hotel del Coronado has a plan to add 144 more rooms, but safety concerns and community protest have held up the project. The hotel expansion would involve 144 4-star or better rated rooms and a conference center.
“It keeps us competitive and relevant in the market,” said Bill Dodds, vice president of development for the Hotel del Coronado.
Hotel management has had to change development plans since they discovered a fault running through the heart of the project. To avoid the fault, the new plan pushes the development closer to Avenida del Sol and forces all the rooms to be built in one building.
A community activist group call called Concerned Citizens for Keeping the Hotel del Beautiful insists the new deign will prevent the public from seeing the historic hotel from the street.
