This morning, I had the pleasure of attending my first Coronado Optimist Club meeting. Mark Blumenthal was nice enough to invite me and even drive me over to the meeting place at the Coronado Community Center. There were about 50-60 members in attendance. The President, Leslie Crawford, got the meeting started with the ‘ding’ of the Optimist bell and the meeting was opened by a prayer. After the prayer, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and then heard from a girl scout and boy scout that were sharing their service projects. Both received financial gifts from the Club. The speaker today was John Weisbarth. John grew up on Coronado and is an Emmy-winning reporter for Channel 4 San Diego. He is the co-host of the Honda Dealers Pre-game Show and the Lexus Postgame Show. I was very impressed by the quality of the members, the positive spirit in the room and learning about the many wonderful things the Coronado Optimist Club does both here in Coronado and over the bridge. What a great club! For more information about attending as a guest or joining as a member, please visit their website. The Optimist Club of Coronado Meets every Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. Meetings are in the Coronado Community Center, 1845 Strand Way. Continental breakfast is provided.
