One of our Coronado ladies 3.5 teams, “Sammy’s Islander Girls,” competed this weekend at Indian Wells in the Southern California Adult and Senior Tennis League Sectionals and won the whole tournament! They made it through the regular season, then Local Area Playoffs, then South Area Playoffs & were one of the top four SoCal teams to compete at SCTA Sectionals in Indian Wells. They finished first, winning all three matches. They represented Coronado well.

The team is named after Samatha Nelson, who helped get these Ladies organized along with another team she helped put together for a Sunday League. She made a great choice handing this team off to Kathy Nichols as team captain. Kathy wanted to name the team after Samantha for putting together such a winning group and to also honor her for all she does for Coronado tennis in general. You can find Sam either working or playing tennis down at the Coronado Tennis Center most days.
