Qué lo motivó a aprender español?
Mi motivación principal fue para aprender cosas sobre diferentes culturas, para viajar y para mejorar mis relaciones en los negocios.
Dónde aprendió español?
Aprendí español en la universidad, viajando, con parientes y cuando estuve con Peace Corps.
A qué universidad fue?
Fui a Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton y Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Cuántas clases enseña?
Enseño cinco clases; tres de Español II y dos de Español III.
Por cuánto tiempo ha enseñado?
He enseñado por dieciocho años; tres años en Long Beach Wilson High School y quince años en Coronado High School.
Qué es lo que mas disfruta de enseñar?
El contacto con los estudiantes.
Ha pasado alguna temporada larga en un país en donde se habla español?
Si, estuve en Guatemala por nueve meses cuando estuve con Peace Corps.
En su casa, se habla español?
No siempre porque he estado hablando español todo el día durante mis clases.
Ve televisión (radio/cine/libros) en español?
No mucho. Oigo el radio en Español cuando viajo.
Por qué cree que es importante aprender otro idioma?
Es importante porque una persona bilingüe vale por dos.
Hablas otros idiomas?
Se un poco de Samoano.
Es aficionado/practica a algún deporte?
Si, voleibol. Jugué en Long Beach State y estuve en el equipo nacional de los Estados Unidos un poco de tiempo.
Qué hace en su tiempo libre?
Me gusta estar con mi familia, viajar a México, pescar, surfear, y esquiar.
Qué estaría haciendo si no fuera maestro?
Trabajaría como ingeniero eléctrico. Es algo que ya hacía antes de empezar mi carrera de maestro.

What motivated you to learn Spanish?
My main motivation was to learn about different cultures, to help while traveling, and to better my business relationships.
Where did you learn Spanish?
I learned Spanish in college, while traveling, from family members, and in the Peace Corps.
What college did you go to?
I went to Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
How many classes do you teach?
I teach five classes; three of Spanish II and two of Spanish III.
How long have you taught for?
I have taught for 18 years; 3 years at Long Beach Wilson High School and 15 years at Coronado High School.
What is it you enjoy most about teaching?
Being with the students.
Have you spent a long period of time in a Spanish-speaking country?
Yes, I spent nine months in Guatemala while in the Peace Corps.
Do you speak Spanish at your house?
Not always because I have been speaking Spanish in the classroom all day.
Do you watch TV (radio/movies/books) in Spanish?
Not much. I listen to the radio in Spanish when I travel.
Why do you think it’s important to learn a different language?
It’s important because someone who is bilingual is worth double.
Do you speak other languages?
I know a little bit of Samoan.
Are you a fan of/play a certain sport?
Yes, volleyball. I played while at Long Beach State and I was on the US national team for a while.
What do you do in your spare time?
I like to spend time with my family, travel to Mexico, fish, surf, and ski.
What would you be doing if you weren’t teaching?
I would be working as an electric engineer. That’s what I did before I started my career as a teacher.
