POWERFUL FRIENDS TURN OUT TO SUPPORT
ROESCH IN CITY COUNCIL RACE
Message: “Let’s Talk About Jean”

Nearly 70 people turned out Sunday night at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club to show their support for Dr. Jean Roesch and her candidacy for City Council.
Several spoke on her behalf, headed by veteran politician Phil Monroe and the President of Southwest College, Dr. Melinda Nish. The message was simple, “Let’s talk about Jean.”
“Jean, what I really admire about you,” said Dr. Nish, “is your wonderfully collaborative manner. You, more than anyone I’ve ever known, effectively articulate your point of view, you understand the value of consensus, and you work tirelessly to achieve that. You are a public servant in the truest sense of the word.”

Roesch is no stranger to serving her community. She currently represents Coronado on the Governing Board of Trustees at Southwest College, where she has served for 12 years. She also served on the Coronado School Board for 10 years. Both schools benefit from Coronado tax dollars.
“I’m very proud that all the projects I’ve been involved in thus far have come in on time and under budget, both at Southwest College and in the Coronado School District,” said Roesch.
Former Coronado City Councilman Phil Monroe introduced the speakers and the candidate.
Jean, her late husband Gil, and their five children came to Coronado 35 years ago. She is the only council candidate residing in the Coronado Cays. She is active in Coronado FOCUS, Soroptimists, Coronado Cays Yacht Club, and is a board member on the Coronado Tennis Association. She is also a member of the Coronado Cays Yacht Club C-Gulls and past Village Director of Green Turtle.
Clearly emotional from the flattering comments by her Southwest College colleague, Roesch took the microphone, and after a long pause said, “I’m just the granddaughter of an old evangelist. She taught me at an early age the importance of service to community. I don’t have a lot of rules to follow except that God and my country come first, and my family and community second. I’ve always lived by that motto.”
Dr. Roesch will be participating in all of the candidate debates scheduled between now and the November 6th election. Her platform is not complicated, but is sincere and based on love of her community and a belief that she can help build a stronger team on City Council.
“My experience working with boards and committees and my background as an educator have provided me with great experience in consensus building,” Roesch told the crowd. “I will listen to all concerned. I do not talk to excess. I listen intently. I say what I mean and I mean what I say. I make my decision and then I sit down.”

Among the items she will be fighting for are better illuminated streets, a safer entrance to the Coronado Cays, a more simplified commuter intersection at the juncture of Glorietta Boulevard, Pomona Avenue and Tenth Street (near the tennis courts), and to stimulate greater awareness and priority when it comes to pedestrians in our village something that has been overlooked in recent decades.
