Local Post Invites Community To “Discover” the VFW

CORONADO – Welcome to the VFW. That’s the message at Coronado Post 2422 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. As their aging membership grows older, their new mission is to invite younger veterans and their families, as well as the general public to visit, enjoy a meal, and find out what the VFW is all about.

The Coronado VFW is inviting the community to join them for a free lunch on Monday, November 11, to help celebrate Veterans’ Day. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. A no-host bar is available and sporting events will air on big screen TVs. A dinner will be held the evening of Friday, November 15.

The VFW’s big food event is Thanksgiving Day dinner, Thursday, November 28. Food will be served from 2-5 p.m. and there will be a no-host bar. The Thanksgiving Day event is open to the general public and local military.

“Originally our Thanksgiving Day dinner was established to service our military who couldn’t get home for the holiday,” said Mike Turner, spokesman for the VFW. “Now it’s open to the public, and we look forward to introducing many new friends to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and to what we’re all about.”

The VFW mission is, “To foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military, and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans.”
