The new Hotel Marisol Coronado is excited to announce that the renovation of the historic building is complete. The stately three-story building at 1017 Park Place was opened as the Blue Lantern Inn in 1927, one of the earliest hotels and gathering spots on Coronado Island. Over the last eighty-seven years, it has hosted visitors seeking the intimate and welcoming experience of our small seaside town.
The building was purchased in 2013 by John Murphy and Ann Keyser, local real estate investors who specialize in historic properties. They have completed a total interior renovation as well as the restoration of the building’s original Spanish Eclectic exterior and adjacent garden. It has been forty years since any significant modernization had been undertaken.
Since its start as the Blue Lantern Inn, the business has had numerous owners and names. It was most recently known as the Village Inn and prior to 1972 it was the Hotel Coronado Biltmore. Ann Keyser, who is also the project manager for the renovation, chose the name Hotel Marisol Coronado to honor the building’s Spanish Eclectic style as well as its close proximity to the beach.
The hotel now offers fifteen rooms and suites on three floors. The grandeur of the original lobby has returned, with dark wooden beams set in the high ceiling, the original reception desk and tiled herringbone pattern flooring. Keyser personally designed the custom furnishings throughout the hotel, selected all of the artwork, and even designed the Mediterranean style garden courtyard.
Reservations can be made for stays beginning August 1, 2014 via the hotel’s website at www.marisolcoronado.com or by phone at (619) 365-4677.
