When you live in a military neighborhood, Veteran’s Day is a particularly special day. It provides a chance to really reflect on the sacrifices our service members, and their families, make to protect our freedom. As a way to say “thanks” several of the military kids living in Silver Strand held a grassroots style parade, complete with wagons decorated with streamers, bikes and scooters and patriotic music to honor their mothers, fathers, neighbors and friends on this 76th Veterans Day.
In their own words, here is what Veteran’s Day means to our military kids:
“America, bravery, courage and celebrating my Daddy.” Peyton, age 8
“Because of all the people who are veterans. Even Daddy. They help the world.” Ryan, age 6
“Daddy.” Matt, age 6
“A Veteran is someone who is really old who used to fight in the military.” Wesley, age 5
“Veteran’s Day celebrates those in the military that protect us and our country from bad guys.” Luke, age 10
“A Veteran is someone who was in the Navy or is in the Navy now.” Aaron, age 6
“I am thankful for everyone who has served in the military.” Max, age 12
“Daddy is on a ship.” Cara, age 5
Thank you to all our men and women who have served and are currently still serving in our military. We honor you not only on Veterans Day, but every day.
