Avenue of Heroes bannerThe City of Coronado invites the public to attend the next Hometown Banner Dedication Ceremony at Coronado High School on Saturday, May 18.

Sixteen veterans, who call or have called Coronado home, will be recognized and honored. Officials with the City of Coronado, VFW Post 2422, the Avenue of Heroes Neighborhood Association, and the Coronado Historical Association have worked together to develop the Hometown Banner program, which honors men and women from Coronado who have honorably served their country.

Each honoree’s biography will be read, and Coronado’s mayor will present the honoree or family member with a duplicate of the banner which will be displayed on the Avenue of Heroes along Third and Fourth streets. The ceremony will be held from 10:30am to noon, at the Coronado High School Auditorium, 650 D Ave. The entrance is at the corner of D Avenue and Sixth Street. Doors will open at 10am with refreshments immediately following the ceremony. The event is free and open to the public.

Nominations to honor someone with a Hometown Banner are accepted on a continuous basis. Any active duty or retired service members, from enlisted personnel to officers, who live or have lived in Coronado are eligible.

Additional information on the Hometown Banner program can be found by searching “Hometown Banner” on the city’s website: www.coronado.ca.us. The city is actively accepting nominations for future banner candidates living or deceased from any branch of the military.
