Last Wednesday, the Islander Boys’ Varsity Baseball team hosted West Hills High School, for what started as a slow game for Coronado. On the mound, Dylan Miller pitched for the first six innings, striking out a total of seven batters and minimizing West Hills’ hits. Coronado did not get a run until the fourth inning, but completed five runs at the bottom of the sixth. Jared Pratt scored two of these runs, while Heath Miller, Ryan Ward, Tobey Brown, and Bobby Zajonc each scored one. With excellent pitching on behalf of the Islanders, they defeated West Hills in a 6-0 shut-out.
Continuing their streak, Coronado hosted Mater Dei High School on Friday afternoon. Heath Miller batted four times throughout the game to get on-base twice, resulting in two runs. Luke Melloche pitched for the Islanders, only allowing Mater Dei five hits and striking out twelve of their hitters. Jon Tessier finished on the mound to strike out one more hitter, winning in another shutout, 2-0.
Concluding their week against Valhalla High School, the entire team, batters and fielders, played an excellent game. The Islanders took a 4-0 advantage at the end of the second inning, while Luke McCollough allowed only two hits and two runs on the mound. Coronado took a dominant lead in the fifth inning, taking six more runs to win 10-2.
