Coronado announces its participation in a program that allows transitioning service members to get hands-on experience in local government.
The Veterans Local Government Management Fellowship Program is designed for service members who are within 180 days of separation from the military. The program helps transitioning service members prepare for a new career in local government.
The City welcomes its first fellow, Marine Corps Col. Allen Broughton, who will participate in a six-month fellowship. Broughton, a Coronado resident, signed up for the program, which is modeled after a well-established Veterans Innovation Partnership Fellowship Program and is sponsored by the International City/County Management Association. There is no cost to Coronado for the program.
“We are excited to work with a seasoned career military officer,” said City Manager Blair King. “Allen got started this week in the City Manager’s Office. He will initially shadow various department directors, then work on specific assigned tasks.”
Broughton holds a master’s degree from the Marine Corps University War College, a master’s degree in Aviation from Embry-Riddle University, and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from California State University, Fresno. His previous assignments include chief of staff for Marine Corps Base Quantico, chief of staff for Marine Corps Installation Command Washington, D.C., as well as other commands and assignments worldwide.
