Coronado Artist’s Abstract Photos in Major San Diego Art Show

Priscilla Dale Jones, longtime Coronado resident, Coronado High School graduate, and Coronado homeowner, will show eight of her abstract photographs at Art San Diego 2019, October 10–13, at the San Diego Convention Center. She was one of sixty artists chosen, out of more than 300 applicants, by Artavita-World Wide Art to exhibit works in its gallery at Art San Diego, the city’s only contemporary fine art show. One of her photographs, “Coast, Highway 101,” appears on the 2019 Exhibitor Gallery preview page on the Art San Diego website.

She will also show a collection of her photographs at two other curated contemporary art shows, Spectrum Miami in early December and Artexpo New York, in Manhattan, in late April 2020.

Priscilla has an enduring connection to Coronado. Her parents, Warren and Dorothy Jones, moved to Coronado when she was four years old and lived there for the rest of their lives. Priscilla attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Coronado and went on to receive a B.A. from San Diego State University, an M.A. from UCLA, and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. She and her husband, Jeffery Rudd, look forward to eventually retiring in Coronado.

Priscilla’s father, a career U.S. Navy officer, gave Priscilla her first camera when she was a young girl and other cameras in the years that followed. His enthusiasm for photography inspired her. A career federal historian with the U.S. Air Force, with tenure also at the Department of Homeland Security as its first chief historian, she pursued photography in her spare time. For the last several years, she has been experimenting with ways to capture images of forms of water at the macro level. Each photograph provides an unrepeatable glimpse of water, its forms, natural patterns, and chance combinations. The images are titled, but they are open to interpretation by viewers, guided by their own intuition, perceptions, experiences, and memories. Her website can be viewed at phdalephotography.com. You can also find her on the Coronado Arts page and on Circle Foundation for the Arts.
