Dan Gensler Selected to Serve as Rotary District Governor in 2021-22

Coronado Rotarian Dan Gensler has been chosen as the District Governor Designee to serve as the official representative of Rotary International for the Rotary Clubs in District 5340 (encompassing the 65 clubs in San Diego and Imperial counties). Recognized for his leadership skills and passion to help others under the Rotary creed of “service above self,” Dan’s term as District Governor will take place during the 2021-22 fiscal year.

”We are incredibly proud of Dan’s accomplishments and for his continued commitment to Rotary,” said Scott Carr, Immediate Past District Governor, who served as District 5340 Nominating Committee Chair. “Dan is an incredibly warm, giving individual who has a tremendous amount of experience at both the club and district level. On behalf of all of the Nominating Committee members, as well as District Governor Mel Gallegos, we congratulate Dan on his terrific achievement.”

At a recent Coronado Rotary meeting a group of Rotary Past Governors came to join Coronado Rotary President Ivan Dunn in congratulating Dan Gensler on his selection as Rotary District Governor for 2021-22.

Dan, a 22-year member of the Rotary Club of Coronado, is admired for his dedication to Rotary ideals and his passion for humanitarian causes on a local and global scale. He was chosen for the club’s highest honor as Rotarian of the Year in 2004. Dan served as President of Coronado Rotary in 2006-2007. His impactful service to the local and international communities includes the Limbs of Freedom project in Ensenada, Mexico, Rotary’s Youth Exchange Program, and fundraising and outreach trips to Missionvale, South Africa. Dan is active on club committees including the Rotary Foundation/Endowment Committee and the Foundation Committee for District 5340.

On behalf of the Coronado Rotary, Dan Gensler submitted a lengthy application to TOMS shoes to have Missionvale children benefit from the company’s donations. For every pair of shoes purchased TOMS gives a pair of shoes to a child in need. Dan fitted the shoes for the little South African girl in the photo during that first visit with TOMS Distribution Project. Since then more than 300,000 pairs of TOMS shoes have been distributed in South Africa.

The District Governor is nominated by the Rotary clubs within the region and serves as the official representative of Rotary International.

As District Governor, Dan is tasked with providing leadership, inspiration, and guidance to Rotary clubs in District 5340 under the general supervision of the Rotary International Board of Directors. In each jurisdiction or district, the Governor serves as the regional officer of Rotary, fostering success in their district at the club level.
