Flooding Shuts Down Streets in Coronado

A ruptured underground water line flooded several streets along the bayside of Coronado Tuesday afternoon.

The broken 16-inch-diameter pipe began inundating the streets near Bradley Field around 3:30 pm. The water had punctured the asphalt and flooded the roadways and sidewalks of A and B Avenues and First Street. The streets will be made unavailable until the patch is backfilled and repaired, Coronado fire department spokesman Jason Clements said.

The Coronado city water-service provider had determined that the broken waterline had led to the Navy Base. The water is currently shut off to make repairs.

Coronado Police Officers set up a roadblock at First Street and B Avenue.
The water had stretched across several city blocks along First Street carrying dirt and debris.
City officials and workers shoveled out mud to attempt to backfill and repair the damage.

Several Coronado Police patrol cars set up another roadblock on 2nd Street.
