Coronado Summer Enrichment Classes Start July 10th: Registration For Week 1 Open Through Friday

There’s still time to register for the fun and hands-on STEAM-inspired classes offered by Coronado Schools Foundation and taught by Coronado Unified credentialed teachers or local professionals who have a passion for innovative learning and interactive teaching. Classes start next week on July 10th, and registration will be open for the first week of classes through this Friday, July 7th at noon.

Now in its sixth year, the Coronado Summer Enrichment program is open to all children entering grades K-12 from any school district. Classes are offered in three one-week morning and afternoon sessions from July 10th through July 28th at Coronado High School. Students may enroll in one week or all three. Three innovative classes run over the course of all three weeks –Musical Theatre & Drama Camp for grades 4th to 12th, SAT and ACT Test Prep classes, and Common College Application for 11th and 12th graders.

“Our program is unique in that it incorporates academic principles within fun and creative classes that bring children back year after year,” noted Kathy Shady, Summer Enrichment Principal, a Village Elementary School teacher with her administrative credential. “With over 40 classes to choose from, we have something for all ages and interests. Our classes offer a great way to keep students minds active over the long summer break.”

Online registration will be open until noon on the Friday before each of the three weeks offered. Week 1, July 10-14 registration closes Friday, July 7th at noon. Week 2, July 17-21 registration closes Friday, July 14th at noon. Week 3, July 24-28 registration closes Friday, July 21st at noon.

Need-based scholarships are still available, and a 10% discount is offered for enrolling more than one child. Here’s a sampling of the 40+ classes offered:

  • Forensics will teach students about fingerprinting analysis, microscopes, DNA extraction and DNA structure, chemical reactions clues and ultimately how to solve a mystery that takes place. Students will work like a real crime scene investigator in this program developed and taught by revered Coronado Middle School teacher Kevin Ramirez.
  • Game, Set, Math and Tennis will help your child with developing/improving large motor skills, hand eye coordination, and rhythmic availability through the use of racquets and ball. Fun and innovative game play with drills that incorporate math will be used to teach the lead up skills to learn the game of tennis.
  • Math Boot Camp is a fun, engaging program that reinforces and then builds upon those important math skills your child has mastered during the school year. Let Math Boot Camp make your child a math star in September! Throughout this class students will be exercising their bodies through athletic games as well as their brains.
  • Raving Robotics is a highly interactive class. Students engage in activities that connect the fundamentals of engineering and robotics with real-world scenarios. Students create devices and machines, build structures, and program simple robots as they learn about motion, energy, and design.
  • Musical Theatre & Drama Camp is a fun and skill building 3-week class taught by CoSA Musical Theatre & Drama teacher Kim Strassburger. Students of all skill levels are welcome and will learn a wide range of skills including acting, singing, Shakespeare in performance, stage combat and theatre etiquette with a final production at the end of the class. No experience is required.
  • Beginning Guitar students will learn the basics of the instrument, including chords, melodies, and strumming patterns. Students will work out of a method book that features tracks you can practice along with. At the end of the week, students will perform their newly learned songs. Taught by CUSD band director Matt Heinecke.
  • Jump, Start, Kindergarten gives a sneak peek at Kindergarten! Each day will include reading and math readiness, music, physical activity, learning centers, field trips, simple science experiments, and socialization skills. Students will be engaged through play and learning center based activities. Each week students will learn a variety of new skills, such as gross and fine motor activities, patterns, and counting with each week focusing on a different theme.
  • SAT and ACT Test Prep Classes give expert instruction to assist your student’s preparation skills. Students will be given test materials and homework assignments to enhance their understanding of the concepts covered in class. The classes will review all three areas of the SAT Reading, Writing, and Mathematics as well as the ACT along with the strategies that optimize each student’s performance on two testing formats.
