CHS Grad Helps Boston Marathon Bombing Survivors Get Back on Their Feet

USC-Chan-Magazine-summer2016-Cover vert2003 Coronado High School graduate, Annemarie Orr, is an occupational therapist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda. She works in the center’s amputation division helping patients with everything from basic self-care to returning to community activities with independence and confidence. Although Orr has worked with many service members, she was recently featured in a USC Chan Alumni Magazine article about her work with two Boston Marathon Bombing Survivors and a unique challenge one of them faced. Orr felt a connection with her patient, Jessica Kensky, who was also a runner in her early 30s, a health care provider, and from California. When Kensky made the difficult decision to voluntarily have her remaining foot amputated, Orr was there every step of the way, from clothes and shoe shopping to planning her role (and navigation) as a bridesmaid.
