What better way to honor Coronados connection to OZ then with a free community celebration of laughter, music, art and make-believe; including Oz characters dressed up and interacting with the children. Thats exactly what is planned, Celebrate Oz! Free Family Festival on October 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Spreckels Park.
The morning will begin with activities provided by Coronado Recreation Center and Coronado Library starting at 9:30 a.m. At 11 a.m., the Coronado Concert Band will play as the Mayor of OZ (Mayor Casey Tanaka) leads the children on a parade around Spreckels Gazebo. After the parade, there will be magical musical performances for all ages.
The park will be filled with incredible OZ and period music performed by the Coronado Concert Band and Coronado Big Band. Back by popular demand is Coronados own Tokali, who will sing several songs with the Coronado Big Band. In addition, Baylie Rose Zimmerman (2014 CoSA Legally Blonde fame) and celebrated opera singer Diane Alexander, will leave kids wide-eyed and adults in awe that their town would sponsor such wonderful entertainment.
Artists from around Coronado will inspire and confirm that the arts are alive and thriving in Coronado, with another Art Under the Umbrella showcase.
Thank you to title sponsor Ruth Ann Fisher, Del Realty and the City of Coronado for making the event possible.
Come out and enjoy a beautiful October day from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m., dress up as your favorite OZ character and make a memory in your place called home.
Community organizations that would like to host a booth at the event should contact Janet Francis at 619-435-7242 ext. 101. Local artists wanting to participate in the Art Under the Umbrella contact the Contract Arts Administrator or download an application on CoronadoARTS.com.
