Coronado Scribes Poetry and Prose Weekly Feature: Grunion Run by Mary Beth Dodson

We, the Coronado Scribes, consist of both professional and amateur writers. We have in common a desire to learn, by sharing our efforts and listening to other writers. We hold pressure-less sessions every Wednesday, at the Coronado Library conference room, starting at 1:30. Often we have guests who wish to just listen. They are welcome, and so are you. Each week on eCoronado, we feature a different piece of prose or poetry produced by one of our writers. Please feel free to comment or ask

Maybe it is best not to plan this,

Not to chart the moon, the tides,

Not to check the clock and pack a lunch,

But rather… to come out of the hotel

At midnight, when musicians pack up,

And notice…from a distance…

A fluorescent green light on the water

And be drawn….out of curiosity…

To investigate

Thousands of tiny swarming fish

Where the sand and ocean meet

Perpetual motion, a mating dance

Spawning season for grunions!

The next wave will sweep them away.

The event so rare to behold

That one memory may have to suffice.
