Community Voices: Excessive Parking Cost at Coronado Plaza

Are you aware that the Coronado Plaza underground garage charges $3 a half hour for parking…that none of the eateries in the Plaza validate parking (probably because of the cost)…that the parking rates are not prominently posted before you enter the garage driveway…and that there is no longer a parking attendant to let you out if you realize it is too expensive? (They may have a “grace period” but I wasn’t going to spend $3 to check that out.)

LAZ parking operates the parking concession, as they do for most of the other paid lots popping out in Coronado. Unlike others that allow for one half hour (Walgreens), one hour free parking while shopping (Vons), or one hour validated parking (at the Ferry Landing, where even Burger King validates), many customers at the Coronado Plaza are allowed none of that.

I realize that this is a private building and they may wish to discourage non-business parking at the limited spaces, but they are discouraging those who dine, shop and go to appointments in the Coronado Plaza, except, perhaps, those who have a “special” arrangement. Coronado residents who are unable to walk from the closest available metered space or need to use the elevator to visit one of the tenants who does not validate because of the fee, must face an excessive parking fee if they enter the garage.

I don’t know how all the tenants feel about having a convenient parking garage with unreasonable rates, but Vigilucci’s has a sign that they not longer validate because of the fees.

I tried to call the parking point of contact given to me by StepStone Real Estate Service, who manage the building and the garage contract, but they have not returned my calls.
