Coronado Film Festival Hosts 2nd Oscar Party – February 22nd

Picture you and your special other dining at the acclaimed 1500 Ocean Restaurant while enjoying a two-night escape to the beaches, pools and boutiques of the world famous Hotel del Coronado (a founding sponsor of the Coronado Island Film Festival.)

If an elegant, centrally located, Bed and Breakfast Inn is to your liking, Anne and Dave Keyser, owners of the luxurious Marisol Hotel, will pamper you for two memorable nights, including breakfast. In addition, you will enjoy dinner for two at Coronado`s newest upscale restaurant, Stake, donated by David Spatafore.

Or fancy yourself appearing on camera during the filming of “Kate Is Back,” a movie about the Hotel del Coronado`s famous ghost. The film, written, produced and directed by Tony Perri, who donated the event, is scheduled for viewing at the January 2016 Coronado Island Film Festival.

According to CIFF President Mary Sikes, these are samples of ten exciting gifts and adventures to be raffled at the 2nd Oscar Night Party on Sunday, February 22 at Nicky Rottens Restaurant, 100 Orange Avenue, Coronado.

The event, chaired by Bobbi O`Connor, will feature all of the glitz and glamour of the former gala with red carpet, blazing searchlights and tuxedo-clad hosts greeting guests with a toast of champagne from 4:30 -5:30 p.m. The likes of Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart and Mary Poppins signing autographs or posing for photo ops might be spotted among the Coronado patrons. At 5:30 p.m., Tony Perri will emcee the evening while the 87th Annual Academy Awards plays on the giant screens and multiple flat-screen televisions strategically placed around the restaurant. The talented Cosettes will offer vocal entertainment during commercial breaks and Nicky Rottens host Tim Aaron will provide tasty snacks such as burger sliders, onion rings, shrimp and chicken quesadilla. There will be a cash bar.

CIFF Executive Director Doug St. Denis announced a special feature this year will be a V.I.P. section of the restaurant designated for patrons with Champagne Tickets at $75. Only 40 reserved seats will be available at this level and they will be sold on a first come first served basis. Food and drink service and bags of party favors will be included. Tickets for the Cabaret Section are $50.

Also new this year is a major fund-raising campaign to finance the coming Festival, which now has a 501c (3) tax exempt organization. Pledges of $20,000 (Patron`s Circle), $10,000 (Benefactor`s Circle), $5,000 (President`s Circle), and $1,000 (Director`s Circle), are tax-deductible and payable over a two-year period. Donors will be honored in a festival program, signage, on the CIFF website and on a big screen prior to the films. Benefactors will also receive admission to screenings, dinners, seminars and other fund-raising events. A special debt of gratitude goes to CIFF founding sponsors Coronado Private Bank, Hotel del Coronado, Village Theatre, Coronado Bliss Salon, Jeff and Candy Tyler, Sharon Lynn Sherman and Nicky Rottens.

Inspiration from the last popular event should bring out many guests dressed as Hollywood icons and stars of the silver screen. Others might prefer “Coronado casual” or “dressing to the Nines.” COSA media students will add color disguised as paparazzi and Coronado`s Channel 19 Tony Perri will document the evening..

Ticket (available after January 5, 2015) can be purchased through the CIFF website www.coronadoislandfilmfest.com or at the Coronado Historical Association Museum Store, 1100 Orange Avenue.
