Coronado’s popular Summer Shuttle is back and is set to offer free bus service to Coronado residents and visitors beginning Sunday, June 8.
Surveyed riders from last year’s free Summer Shuttle expressed their appreciation for the free bus service and a desire to have the City offer it again. The Summer Shuttle reduces vehicle trips along the Orange Avenue Corridor during the peak summer season. The Coronado City Council agreed to once again fund the free service from June 8 through September 14.
Each Metropolitan Transit System bus will be “wrapped” with special graphics that promote Coronado and the most popular shuttle destinations such as the Hotel del Coronado, Downtown/Shops, Coronado Ferry Landing and the Marriott. Special bus stop signs will be installed along the route and at the Coronado Ferry Landing.
The Summer Shuttle buses will run every 30 minutes from 9:03 a.m. to 9:42 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 9:03 a.m. to 10:42 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The new service provides four more hours of daily service to the 904 route by beginning one hour earlier and remaining in operation three hours later, seven days a week.
A handy brochure with a map and places of interest around town will be distributed next week to City facilities and local businesses, and will be available on the buses. Be sure to catch the ads inside the buses featuring local Coronado businesses, a new feature this year. For more information, call (619) 522-7340.
