Sold Out “Spring Fling – Flips Flops & Florals” Event Huge Success (Photos)

The first annual Coronado Flower Show Spring Fling, “Flip Flops & Florals”, was an instant hit. The event took place in Spreckels Park last night. Festivities included stilt walkers, food, drink, music, dancing, photo booth, sketch artists, fresh flowers and hundreds of locals enjoying the evening in the middle of “tent square”. The first annual event was sold out in 9 weeks and 290 ticket holders were able to experience a very entertaining evening.

Rob Crenshaw, official Spring Fling Coordinator for the Coronado Floral Association and CFA President Elect, was elated with the turn out and shared:

The Spring Fling’s objective was to maintain the Coronado Flower Show’s long time tradition of style and elegance, while also providing excitement and creativity that appeals to the younger generations. Our demographic was from the 30 year olds to those in their 80s.

Early in the evening, we were pleased to present a collaboration between the Lamb’s Players and the Coronado Floral Association in a special rendition of “You Are My Sunshine.” The spontaneous presentation finished with the performers and audience joined in song. It felt like this jumpstarted the evening.

I would also like to acknowledge the existence and importance of my co-chairs. The Spring Fling sprung from the minds and imagination of our two co-chairs, Colby Erickson Freer and Rita Alipour. Thanks to their management and motivational skills, they were supported by a great team who planned the event and canvased the merchants for tasting participation, raffle gifts or sponsorship.The whole event came from their brain-trust.

Ticket holders were given a giant punchcard to walk around the grounds to enjoy food and drink. A commemorative wine glass was also given out at the end of the eventing.
