Saturday morning I began a great bike ride on the Silver Strand with my husband. After a great ride of about 4 miles we turned around back towards Coronado. Within five minutes my chain fell off track (for lack of knowledge of this part) and we started to walk our bikes back to the Coronado Shores. We decided it would be faster for him to ride on and bring back the car. He rode on and I continued walking my bike on the path.
It was a very busy moring on the path, joggers, riders of families and singles in both directions. Within a few minutes, the passerbys asked me if I needed tools, help etc. I assured them I was fine. A couple stopped for a moment to be sure I was confident in my response.Another gentleman rode by in the opposite direction and after I said no thank you he rode away. Within moments he turned around and gently insisted he had tools and could get my bike operating quickly. He was off his bike and pulling out wrenches before I knew it. After fifteen minutes of frustration with my defective parts, this time I insisted he go on his way. I thanked him again and he was gone. I didn’t ask his name but I am grateful for his kindness. I continued pushing my bike along and people nodded and asked if I needed help. It was a beautiful day and it was such a nice feeling to know I really wasn’t alone at all.
I had made over a mile and another gentleman asked me if I would like his assistance I assured him that my chain was helpless. I quickly told him of the man with all the tools that could not get the chain to cooperate. He really wanted to help and bet me a dollar that he could get the chain to work with no tools! I couldn’t say no, he was confinced he could do a good deed. What he didn’t see was my chain gaurd was bent and the chain would not fit until it was unbent. I gave him a couple of minutes and than very graciously told him it was not worth his trouble. It was another minute before he agreed he could not fix it. What a terrific reminder of all the kind citizens we have around us ever day.
We are year round tenants from Las Vegas and after eight years of being a part-time Coronadan, we love it even more! Thank you all kind citizens! I will do my best to pass it forward!
