Bill’s Coronado Whiskey and Cigar Blog: Where to buy Cigars and Whiskey in Coronado Part 2

Wow! A place in Coronado that has hand made small production cigars? That’d be the Coronado Cigar Factory at The Landing by the fancy Cupcake place. They don’t have the biggest store front, but they definitely have the only walk-in humidor in Coronado. Packed full of cigars from their mother stores in Las Vegas, the Coronado Cigar Factory has a nice line of premium cigars. From Connecticut Shade Natural wrappers, to Nicaraguan Maduro Wrappers, and sizes from Corona’s to Churchill’s, they have something for everybody. They also carry a selection of Pipe tobaccos for the Sea-Captain guys out there. This is the only place I could find on the Island that had a humidifier for sale when I found mold on mine (this is a huge no-no, which I attribute to not using freshly distilled water). I hate waiting for stuff that I purchased online to show up, plus I like to support the local guys, so I was very happy to find the humidifiers at Coronado Cigar Factory. They carry a full-line of cutters and micro-torches too for those that want something nicer than the $2 cutter you get for free from buying a pack of cigars online. Also, if you can make out the cigars in the picture to the right you can see that they don’t have that many name-brand cigars available. They do have some, but I’m guessing that they are trying to sell primarily their house brand, and with the house brand they’re pumping out who could blame them? House brand cigars run from $5 to $10 depending on the size. I bought a Barber Pole style cigar that had both the Connecticut Natural and Maduro wrappers. I fired it up over at McP’s while out on a date night with my wife last week and found it to be very enjoyable. I would recommend talking with the manager when you go in if you are looking for a specific flavor profile, but all their house brand cigars have notes with to help you pick out what you are looking for. Need a mild cigar, or a full-bodied maduro? They got ’em.

Another local place I found cigars was Winestyles on Orange Ave, between Starbucks and Burger Lounge. Known as a Wine Bar with a great selection of wines that you don’t normally find in grocery stores, Winestyles also has a cigar case. I’m wondering where they get their cigars from, because even though they have a pretty good selection for as small as their case is, it’s almost identical to the one in Avenue Liquor, which is almost identical to the one in Central Liquor. However, it is very convenient to pick out a nice Cabernet or Syrah to pair with a cigar. They have the Rocky Patel Vintage 1990, and 1992 which is decent mid-priced cigar. They also have some inexpensive cutters if you are just visiting and need something better than your teeth.
Though it might be a little off-base for a cigar blog, I must say that I really liked their truffle selection. I guess they have some mad chocolate scientist hidden in Coronado that they get their sweets from, but I really liked their Bacon Truffle with Sea Salt on top. How do you beat chocolate, bacon, and sea salt when paired with a cigar and nice wine? Don’t try to answer that, just go over to Winestyles and try one.
