By the time that August 25 rolled around most Coronado High School students were braced for what was coming. That’s right; school was once again in session. Throughout campus one could spot a variety of newly purchased “first day of school” outfits mixed in with a sea of Jansport backpacks. Attitudes about the new year could definitely be called wide-ranged, though the general outlook seemed optimistic. Sam Cattell, a sophomore, said “I’m excited. I’ve had my fun during summer and I’m ready for the challenges of school.”
Being a senior myself, I definitely relate to the bitter sweet aspects the last first day of school. On one hand, senioritis is starting to take over and the idea of leaving high school has never seemed so appealing. On the other, this is the only life we’ve known and it has been full of friends, laughter, and memories that will last a life time.
“It’s so weird to think that high school is almost over; it feels like yesterday was our freshman year. Now graduation and a new life chapter are just around the corner,” stated Ariel Ochoa.
So although right now, for the class of 2012, the rest of the year might seem like it’s going to last an eternity my hope is that we will make an effort for it to be our best year yet. Why? Because I have a nagging suspicion that the moment we put on our caps and gowns we’ll look back in retrospect and marvel at how quickly time passes by.
