Nado Select’s GU13 finished the 2010 season by winning the Coronado Holiday Cup for a 2nd year in a row. This tournament victory was followed by an overall impressive season, where the team placed first in the Presidio League as well as Presidio Cup. The girls had outscored their opponents in league play with a whopping 42 goals for and 12 against. They have lost only one game since the end of August, giving them momentum as they get read for State Cup in February.
The team’s ability to score has been led by the dynamic duo of Desiree Ramirez and Geogina Herrera, but teammates such as Kayla Kinney and Jordan Glenn helped add to the goal count. Defensively the team has been solid. Sisters Ellie Nixon (Goalkeeper) and Trudie Nixon (Sweeper) protect the goal alongside new addition Hanah Monroe. Casey Nembach’s powerful kick has resulted in well-placed goal kicks and corner kicks. The team’s imagination and passing has been orchestrated by midfielders Jaquelyn Neves and Julia Brandt-Guerra, who have consistently created offensive opportunities all season. Frances Mullerand Bree Humphrey gave the team the attacking and defensive support from the outside midfield, both have added to Nado’s goal count. One player that was missed out on the field was Emily Schmitz, who had been sidelined due to a knee injury suffered over the summer. Her support on the sideline all season really made a difference to the team and the team is ready for her return at State Cup.
For Coach Vidal Fernandez, he likes to call them the “Magnificent 13? because it took exactly 12 of them to accomplish magnifigance on the field of play.
