Polo America has partnered with the Hotel del Coronado to present Beach Polo over Labor Day weekend. On September 3rd and 4th twelve polo players and fifty plus horses will take to the beach. Spectators will experience some of the best polo players from around the world. The Polo America Beach Polo Cup will feature Argentine polo players Julio Novillo Astrada, Agustin “Tincho” Merlos, Pelon Escapite, Pakistan polo player Bash Kazi, along with American players Lucas Lalor, Melissa Ganzi and her son Grant Ganzi. To watch these polo players and horses travel at 35 mph trying to score a goal is a sight you won’t soon forget.
Our only female polo player Melissa Ganzi has the experience to play at this level of polo. Over the years, Melissa has played in the U.S. Open Polo Championship, Pacific Coast Open, East Coast Open and many other prestigious tournaments around the globe. In 2010 Melissa and Luis Escobar played in the longest recorded polo game, a total of 34 chukkers. The game started at 8:00 AM and ended at 4:10 PM. Melissa and Luis cemented their mark in history that day by playing thirty consecutive chukkers; over seven hours of continuous polo. The Ganzi’s are a polo playing family. Her son Grant will be playing on a team against his Mother. Imagine the party at their home in Florida on December 10th if they each make the final. NBC Sports will broadcast the Polo America Beach Polo Cup final on December 10th at 6:00 PM EST.
The spectacle of polo, the historic Hotel Del, and the ocean make the perfect backdrop for a memorable weekend. Attendees will be treated to two polo games each day, a meet and greet wine reception with the players, a gourmet lunch provided by Hotel del Coronado, a fashion show by Grayse, a Post Game party, Tango with the polo players and much more.
The 10,000 square foot VIP Tent will consist of three terraces. The first terrace, “Millionaire’s Row,” will consist of 15 lounges complete with white leather couches and chairs. Food and cocktail service available through The Del. The second terrace will be formal dining for 400 people. Luncheon to be provided by Hotel del Coronado. The third terrace will be the Polo Village featuring our prestigious sponsor boutiques from Ermenegildo Zegna, Grayse, Porsche of San Diego, Hoffman International Properties, Silver Seas Yachts, Polo America, and more.
