City Ballet of San Diego is thrilled to announce the Hotel del Coronado as our Season Sponsor and that our 24th Anniversary Gala will be held at the Hotel on Saturday, October 22nd. Our Gala Chairperson is Coronado resident Rita Steel and our theme is “IlluminAsia”.
An unforgettable evening has been planned and will include a delightful reception hosted by the Hotel del Coronado, a live and silent auction, a delicious multi-course dinner, exciting performances by our City Ballet dancers, and a chance to win a fabulous trip through our Opportunity Drawing.
We are also very excited to have The Mighty Untouchables band as our entertainment for dinner and dancing.
Proceeds from the Gala will fund the following City Ballet’s Educational Programs and help ensure that we continue to teach and present ballet to over 10,000 local children:
Discover a Dancer program which provides free year-round ballet instruction for disadvantaged children and youth at risk. This program offers a creative alternative to violence, gang association, substance abuse and leaving school early for low income children.
Ballet Goes to School program offers a complete ballet education package for school children, including in-theater performances with teacher lead instruction packages that are fun and informative and include in-school assemblies giving children a special, close-up look into the world of ballet. Our current program of “The Ugly Duckling” offers an anti-bullying theme.
Outreach Programs are specially designed to make ballet accessible to everyone in San Diego County with free and low-cost concerts and performances throughout the county. The City Ballet’s Junior Corps volunteers its services by performing in art festivals throughout the year, exposing more children and adults to ballet.
Summer Intensive is a 3-week summer program that offers dedicated, career-minded ballet students the opportunity to study with some of the finest ballet instructors assembled on the West Coast. Guest artists for summer 2016 include: Paloma Herrera (retired prima ballerina with American Ballet Theatre), Zippora Karz (former soloist with New York City Ballet) and Jonathan Stafford (former principal dancer with New York City Ballet). The Sally B. Thornton Scholarship helps to fund scholarships for deserving Summer Intensive students who otherwise could not participate due to financial hardship.
Formal invitations will be mailed the first part of September and if you wish to receive an invitation or would like more information, please call 858-272-8663 or email us at [email protected]. You can also find information on our website: www.cityballet.org.
