Employment & Community Options Launches Coronado Business Enterprise to Advance Workers with Developmental Disabilities
Coronado Mayor Honors Concierge Service with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 21, 2010) The public is invited to join City of Coronado Mayor Casey Tanaka for a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the Coronado Enterprise Group at 12:15 on Wednesday, May 26. The startup business is a division of local non-profit Employment & Community Options (E&CO), providing concierge services to local businesses including administrative support, mailings, data entry and delivery services. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Coronado Enterprise Group offices, located at 1224 10th Street, Coronado, CA 92118.
The Coronado Enterprise Group is fully maintained and operated by program participants of E&CO, a 501(c)(3) human services organization dedicated to empowering low-income adults with developmental disabilities through employment, life-skills training and independent-living services. E&CO created the business venture to offer adults with developmental disabilities self-employment alternatives that utilize their acquired entrepreneurial skills.
“We developed this business model to give individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to have as much control over their lives and careers as possible,” said Nancy Batterman, CEO of Employment & Community Options. “We currently serve about 15 businesses in Coronado, and we are currently working to replicate this model and expand our service area.”
The Coronado Enterprise Group is a member of the Coronado Chamber of Commerce and has been operating for approximately eight months. The services offered include shredding, stuffing envelopes, assembling packets for mailings, data entry, stocking and organizing files and offices and delivering papers, magazines and lunches.
Wendy McGuire, owner of Ganosh Gourmet and customer of the Coronado Enterprise Group, has been affiliated with E&CO for nine years.
“It is my privilege to support this community-based organization, because they help me, my business, and all of us in Coronado in more ways than I can mention,” said McGuire. “I depend on their staff to assist me with food delivery, and I am constantly impressed with the level of quality and dedication that they put into their work.”
The ribbon cutting ceremony is part of a series of events that celebrate E&CO’s 25th anniversary of providing quality services in San Diego and throughout California.
