The City of Coronado and the Cultural Arts Commission (CAC) invites members of the community to apply for two open commissioner seats in the program areas of Arts Partners & Advocacy and Arts Education. The mission of the CAC is to serve the Coronado community as an umbrella organization and as a voice for the arts through support, enrichment and development of a thriving arts environment. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, November 14. Commissioners are appointed by the City Council.
Joining the seven-member commission is an opportunity to foster the development and enjoyment of performing, visual, literary, cultural and other arts in Coronado through:
- Recognizing and encouraging groups and organizations that enrich Coronado through cultural and artistic works of art;
- Providing access to a variety of performing arts offering a diverse mix of events;
- Recommending to the City Council policies and practices to develop and promote the arts;
- Advocating for nonprofit and private arts groups operating in and for the benefit of the citizens of Coronado;
- Encouraging educational art experiences for children and adults; and
- Acquiring and exhibiting quality works of art.
The Commission meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month in City Council Chambers. Cultural Arts Commissioners serve a three-year term with an option to serve a second term.
The Arts Partners & Advocacy commissioner maintains an open dialogue with local arts and cultural partners to develop and augment creative opportunities in the community. Each commissioner recruits and manages volunteers for his or her individual program areas.
