Last week, the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team played two games against two strong teams. The first, being on Wednesday, was played against Patrick Henry High School, resulting in a 0-3 set loss (17-25, 13-25, 17-25). Senior Morgan Burke, however, had an outstanding offensive game with ten assists. Unfortunately, “it was Patrick Henry’s senior night, and the energy was not in our favor,” shares Coach Adeile Ahmu.
On Thursday, the team hosted La Jolla High School, resulting in another 0-3 set loss. The first set proved to be the closest, going to 21-25. La Jolla gained momentum in the last two sets to win 15-25 and 11-25. “This second time around against La Jolla was a lot stronger,” says Coach Ahmu. “We may not have won this game, but the girls definitely played exceptional defense and worked together regardless of the score.” Zoe Johnstad and Burke both performed well on defense, while Delaney Dunham and Megan Thoroman were a force on offense with several kills.
The Islanders’ last home game is Wednesday against Mission Bay. “This is our senior night so we will definitely have a lot of energy, and hopefully the crowd will share that with the team as well,” shares Coach Ahmu.
