Successful Coronado Turkey Trot Benefits the Copley Psychiatric Emergency Department at Rady Children’s Hospital

Turkey Trot 2018

The Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary – Coronado Unit would like to thank everyone who helped make the 5th Annual Coronado Turkey Trot a success. Due to the participation of our wonderful community, the 5k run in Tidelands Park sold out once again this year. Donations are still being collected; however, thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and participants, the event exceeded last year’s donation of $59,000 for the Copley Psychiatric Emergency Department at Rady Children’s Hospital.

“We are so grateful for this year’s sponsors, who were imperative to the success of this year’s Turkey Trot. Their support will help provide a critical, life-saving resource for countless children,” says Lynda Willkie, co-chair for the auxiliary’s Coronado unit.

The rain held off on Thanksgiving Day, while participants ran or walked with family and friends to help raise money for the region’s first pediatric psychiatric emergency department. This specialized emergency department is scheduled to open in 2019 and will combine Rady Children’s distinct pediatric medical expertise with state-of-the-art mental health services to serve children in various states of mental health crises. Recognizing that early intervention can save lives and support families at the most critical point in a mental health crisis, the planned Copley Psychiatric Emergency Department will serve the unique needs of patients requiring immediate and long-term care for mental and behavioral health challenges.Turkey Trot 2018 winner
