This past Friday, Coronado lost one of its most cherished coaches, father figures, a mentor and a surfer. Stan Searfus was an integral part of the Coronado community and was beloved by thousands of people whose lives he touched.
When the tragic news made way to his family, Stan’s sister messaged four of her friends to meet her at the Coronado Shores to pay their respects to her brother at this local surfing spot. But the news soon spread like wildfire among the local community. By four o’clock, what went from the idea of a few people gathering, turned into hundreds of people honoring Stan.Â
The assortment of people from the lifeguards, children, adults, local surfers, students of all ages, and loved ones that attended the memorial, truly shows the huge reach that Stan had in his life. He treated each new surf student like a long time friend.Â
As the days pass, his memorial still stands strong, surrounded by increasing bouquets of flowers, sentimental items, candles and pictures.
Stan leaves behind his wife Jan, and their six children (including twin three-year-old boys). The community is coming together to support the Searfus family in this time of grief. A GoFundMe page can be found here:Â https://www.gofundme.com/stan-searfus-memorial-fund
