Rotary Honors Naval Base Coronado Sailor of the Year

The Coronado Rotary Club recently hosted the Naval Base Coronado Command Master Chief Matthew Logsdon and the Naval Base Coronado Sailor of the Year Yeoman Third Class (YN3) Tia Blackwell.

Master Chief Logsdon introduced Petty Officer Blackwell, giving her numerous accolades regarding her superior performance and commitment to the Navy’s Core Values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.

Petty Officer Blackwell entered the Navy in March of 2015 after attending two years of college. Upon completion of basic training, she attended Yeoman School in Meridian, Mississippi graduating in June 2015.

After reporting aboard her first command Naval Base Coronado, Petty Officer Blackwell quickly made her mark by earning the Blue Jacket of the Quarter and Blue Jacket of the Year award, earning her promotion to Third Class Petty Officer.

Petty Officer Blackwell has also been awarded the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Pistol Marksmanship Medal.

The Coronado Rotary has proudly honored the Sailor of the Year selectee for several years as a way to recognize and pay tribute to those who represent the Rotary motto of Service above Self.
