I would like to relate an incident which puts a new light on Coronado for me. My mother, who lives at the Shores and is 92, felt faint while outside the library on Sunday. She was on her bike, a large tricycle with which she is still able to do most of her shopping. My sister picked her up and took her home, after locking her tricycle at one of the library bike stands. My sister and I planned to pick up the bike on Tuesday, when we were both off work. Unfortunately, by Monday, the bike had been stripped of any external stuff (basket, bell), the seat vandalized to the point of needing replacement, and the lock damaged.

Where were the Coronado police when this was going on? I really thought the bike was safe there, locked up, for a few days! Well, Coronado residents, please be advised that your possessions are constantly being watched, probed, explored for the opportunity to rip you off.

I take the ferry as a commuter, and the other day there was an exhausted youth with two bikes, on board with us at 5:40am. One of my friends on the ferry was upset, because he felt sure this boy was stealing these bikes, and  taking advantage of the free ferry in the morning to escape with his loot.

This is a side of Coronado that is new to me. Please be warned and advised, fellow residents. Everything is up for grabs, if you let your guard down.
