LOS ANGELES – Smart & Final, the value-oriented food and everyday staples retailer for household and business customers, opens its first Smart & Final Extra! store in Coronado Wednesday at 150 B Ave.

The grocer is committed to expanding in the area and has plans to open 10 more stores by the end of June. All will be under the Extra! format, which will double the number of Extra! stores in the area, bringing the total count of Smart & Final stores to 27 and adding more than 500 new jobs. Smart & Final has been in San Diego County for more than 50 years.

“We are so excited to bring our Smart & Final Extra! store format to Coronado. Local shoppers who only have shopped our traditional stores will be in for a nice surprise. The Extra! stores are much more robust in terms of product offerings for businesses as well as household shoppers,” said Bryan deGroot, Smart & Final district manager.

The new store is 25,540 square feet in size. In comparison to traditional Smart & Final stores, Smart & Final Extra! stores offer shoppers expanded frozen, deli and meat selections, a full fresh produce section, organic and natural food products, more high-quality perishables, a wide selection of private label offerings and products offered in a broad range of sizes.

Additionally, the new store includes unique products such as oven-roasted chicken, self-serve dry bulk goods by the pound and baked goods from a hot, on-site bakery.

Within the next few weeks, the new store also will offer a Smart & Final first – fresh, chef-prepared, restaurant-quality sushi made on site daily.

The Smart & Final Extra! format provides a one-stop shopping experience where businesses and organizations, as well as households, can purchase grocery and everyday staple needs while also stocking up on thousands of club-size products, all without a membership fee.

As a part of its commitment to the community, the Smart & Final Charitable Foundation is making two $2,500 donations to local charities, one each to Coronado Youth Softball and Stephen J. Wampler Foundation.

Normal store hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Smart & Final will give away free, reusable grocery bags with purchase while supplies last.

Based in California, Smart & Final has served customers statewide for 145 years.
