“My Bike” Sculpture in Tidelands Heading for the Shop

The Coronado Cultural Arts Commission received notification that the San Diego Unified Port District is currently working on the restoration of the “My Bike” by Amos Robinson, a kinetic sculpture located in Tidelands Park along the bike path. In order to complete the artwork restoration, the Port has temporarily removed “My Bike” from the site so that the work can be performed at the artist’s studio. In terms of repair work, the artist will strip down the remaining paint, repaint it and replace bearings and other parts. The Port, which owns the sculpture that is installed on Port property, estimates the work will be completed by the end of the fiscal year. As soon as the restoration is completed and the artwork is ready for re-installation the Port will notify the City.

My Bike was installed in 2009 along the Tidelands bike path and is a beloved piece of public art within the City of Coronado. The bike had begun to fade and show signs of many miles on the bay. At the City’s request, the Port arranged to perform restoration work.
