Coronado resident Buzz Fink celebrates 30 years of Skydiving

Local Coronado resident Buzz Fink celebrates his 30th year in Skydiving by jumping into the beach at the world famous Hotel Del Coronado.

Growing up in Coronado Buzz always looked forward to the Naval Warfare demonstrations in San Diego bay every 4th of July. It was there he first saw military skydivers jumping form airplanes and landing on the beach of the Coronado Golf Course. After years of watching the skydiving, at age 23, Buzz decided he wanted to try it. After the jump Buzz immediately knew this was something he do for the rest of his life and he went forth and got certified. Since that first jump, Buzz has made over 6,200 jumps. He holds most all Instructional rating through the United States Parachute Association (USPA) and is a USPA Safety and Training Advisor. In 1993, Buzz teamed up with his brother in law Bruce Young, and started their own skydiving school, Air Adventures Skydiving, Inc. We later bought his brother in laws share of the business and moved the operation to its current location, a private airport east of Chula Vista. And the name changed to Skydive San Diego. Ironically, our company now trains and certifies the US Military in Staticline and Freefall parachuting and has been doing it for the last 11 years.

Last Saturday marked 30 years since Buzz’s first jump. What better way to celebrate than to jump onto the beach at the Hotel Del Coronado. And at 5:00pm on Saturday October 25th, 5 jumpers exited the Twin Otter aircraft above Coronado. It was a spectacularly clear day and the view was amazing. After landing, the group exchanged hugs and congratulations and then joined others to celebrate at Primevera.

Special thanks go to Ron and Todd Lee of Skydiving Innovations, for setting the jump up; and to the Hotel Del Coronado for their gracious hospitality. Now what will he do for his 40th year? Below is a link to a video of the jump from the jumper’s perspective. Enjoy.

Our Military Freefall Instructors will also be jumping in again this year for the Take a Vet To School day on November 7th, between 9:30am and 10:00am on the Coronado High School football field.
