Dear Coronado residents, friends, and family,
I am writing to let you know of a unique opportunity to be featured in an internationally live-streamed commemorative event at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC next month!
My name is Michael Silberblatt. I was a 2010 graduate of Coronado High School and the Coronado School of the Arts. I recently graduated college at Northwestern University and I work jointly with the Department of Education’s Presidential Scholars Program and with the National YoungArts Foundation. I’m currently directing, co-writing, and performing in the world premiere of Six Americans which will be staged and internationally live-streamed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC on Monday, June 16th. Six Americans is an original show that explores the theme of national identity through the use of self-created material from across the United States.
Coronado holds a very special place in my heart… not just because it’s my hometown, but also because of its deep connection to our country’s military, its eclectic history, and its beautiful aesthetic. The Six Americans team and I would like to include and feature Coronado residents, friends, and family in a special montage video that plays during the finale of the performance. People of all ages are welcome to participate by submitting a very short video clip which can be recorded in less than five minutes on your camera phone, laptop, or any other recording device. In this video clip, we are asking participants to briefly answer/interpret the question, “What does it mean to be ‘American’?” There are no right or wrong answers! Every opinion is valuable.

The deadline for submissions is this coming Sunday, June 1st before 5:00pm. We will use EVERY entry received and you will be credited in a performance that will eventually become permanently archived. How cool is that? 🙂
