American Hustle Playing at Coronado Village Theater

American Hustle sets the 2014 film world off with a bang: not your typical heist movie, Hustle features 1970s-era mobsters corrupting the good guys just as much as the bad ones. Set around the scandalized dealings of Irving Rosenfeld (Bale) and his alluring, fake-British partner Sydney Prosser (Adams), the film illustrates what happens when a corrupt FBI agent, Richie DiMaso (Cooper), steps into the world of the mafia, and gets sucked in. Instead of focusing on the violence that surrounds movies of the “mobster genre”, the film shows the logic and fear that goes into hustling rich, powerful men out of their millions of dollars and into jail. Funny, smart, and charming, American Hustle will jerk your emotions back and forth just as much as the con-artists jerk political men back and forth between con-artists and their families. Fans of Christian Bale will find his presence in the film, worlds apart from all of the serious roles he normally plays. “Batman is a little too scratchy sometimes, but [Bale] completely nailed the classic mobster-type. I loved that,” said moviegoer Melissa Stubbs.
